Risky Business

During a summer job you get to meet new people, hang out after hour, and have money. It beats sitting around at home having nothing to do.

Restaurant Jobs: As for teens you could get a job as a host, waitperson, cook, barista, dishwasher, or cashier. At restaurants the main injuries are slip-and-falls. The cooking supplies aren’t always the safest because all the hot pans, food spill, and knives lurking about.

Retail Jobs: The job of working with cash registers, folding clothes, and stocking shelves doesn’t really seem very dangerous, but the highest deaths among teens are retail jobs. The main crimes committed are at grocery stores, convenience, jewelry, and other types of stores around. “Violence is a major concern” Never be alone on night shift and to be on the safe side have 911 punched into your phone for a quick react for an emergency.

Outdoor Jobs: When you work outdoor jobs you want to be careful of communicable disease, sunburn, and heat exhaustion, and dehydration. So drink plenty of water like about 16 to 32 ounces per hour when you’re out working in the sun and wear sunscreen.

Heavy-Machinery Jobs: Landscaping, Farming, and construction jobs “many are illegal for workers under the age of 18.” You make good money but very dangerous. Because the power machines and opportunities to be stuck by, caught between vehicles, or other heavy objects.
